Pedestrian killed after being struck by lorry on M1 near Lutterworth

Police are asking witnesses to come forward

A pedestrian has been killed after he was hit by a lorry on the M1 near Lutterworth this morning (Friday).

The man aged in his 60s has died after he was knocked down near junction 19 of the M1 northbound.

The incident has sparked massive traffic tailbacks as the busy motorway’s northbound carriageway was closed at junction 19 with diversions set up.

Police were called to the “collision” at 6.34am today.

East Midlands Ambulance Service and Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service also raced to the scene.

“It was confirmed that the pedestrian, a man in his 60s, had sadly died at the scene.

“The man’s family has been informed,” said Leicestershire Police.

“No other injuries were reported.

“Enquiries currently remain ongoing at the scene.

“Road closures have been put in place and are likely to remain in place throughout the morning to allow initial enquiries to be completed.”

Det Con John Borlase, of Leicestershire Police Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “A man has sadly died in this collision.

“We are carrying out enquiries to establish the full circumstances of this incident including speaking to people at the scene.”

Appealing to anyone who saw the tragic incident or who has any information to contact police, he added: “Anyone who was driving in the area this morning and who has any information which could help our enquiries should get in touch if you have not already done so.

“If you have any dashcam footage which could assist us, you should also make contact.”
