Old Leamingtonians' mixed ability team The Hornets show they still have a sting in their tails during lockdown

Members of Old Leamingtonians Rugby Club's mixed ability team The Hornets have kept themselves buzzing during lockdown by taking part in weekly Zoom meetings and taking part in an online question and answer session with a professional player.

The Hornets also created two challenges that encourage teamwork and to help to keep them fit.

One of them involved a contest with The Titans mixed ability team who are part of The Trinity Guild RFC in Cubbington.

The Hornets walked or ran recorded distances and these were collected each week.

Jointly the team covered 1,001 miles between them and won the challenge..

They are looking forward to hosting The Titans at Old Leamingtonians for a match as soon as restrictions are lifted.

The second challenge is to log how many hours of physical activity each member is doing, and to take part in a Mencap activity which allows the participant to see how far they can travel virtually around Europe.

Players also got the chance to speak to Wasps and England International player Jacob Umaga.

Jacob shared how he played his junior rugby at Kenilworth and represented Warwickshire at county level.

When asked by one of the Hornets players what advice he would give young players he said: “Try not to get stressed, stay as positive as possible, enjoy playing the game and enjoy all rugby has to offer."
