Plans green lit to turn Grade II listed former Warwick conference centre into a health centre and chiropractor

Plans to turn former conference and training facility in the heart of Warwick into a health centre and chiropractor have been given the go ahead.

Earlier this year, a change of use application was submitted for Northgate House in Northgate, which was previously owned by Warwickshire County Council.

The county council had owned the building since 1946 and closed it down in March 2024.

It was then put on the market in July 2024, and according to the planning documents, was sold in 2025 to the clinical director of the Kenilworth Chiropractic Clinic.

Within the plans it said: “The provision of a town centre chiropractic and family health centre will be a community asset.

“There are numerous other health clinics, doctor’s surgeries, pharmacies and dental surgeries in the vicinity and the provision of chiropractic care, with specialist provision for children with physical disabilities and the family health centre, will enhance the local healthcare provision.”

The application also sought to reinstate the former access to Cape Road and create a car park with six spaces.

It also said no changes wold be made to “the structure or fabric of the building”.

The applicant added that the plans would bring the building back into use and that it would “provide a positive contribution to the locality, the conservation area and the listed building.”

The plans were given the go ahead by Warwick District Council via a delegated decision on August 12.
