Weekend open day events at landmark Leamington windmill have been cancelled

Heritage Open Days events due to take place at The Chesterton Windmill near Leamington this weekend have been cancelled.

Warwick District Council has said the cancellation of the events, which were due to take place on Saturday and Sunday (September 19 and 20) was “due to events entirely out of its control”.

Posting on its Facebook page, the district council said: “The cancellation is due to the contractor responsible for installing the new access stairs withdrawing at short notice.

"Despite exploring alternative options, we have been unable to find a solution that would enable safe public access to the windmill in time for the event.

"Heritage & Culture Warwickshire, Chesterton Parish Council and the Midlands Mills Group apologise for the disappointment and kindly ask visitors not to travel to the site this weekend.

"Thank you for your understanding.”
