Jet2 cancels flights to Cyprus - here’s what to do if you had a holiday booked
Here’s what you need to know - including what to do if your flight has been cancelled or if you have one booked from 17 August onward.
Why have flights been cancelled?
The airline has said that it has “no choice” to cancel flights due to new travel restrictions which Cyprus will soon implement.
Under these new rules, Brits travelling to Cyprus would have to prove that they don't have the virus before entering the country.
The Republic of Cyprus government said that the UK will move to Category B from 1 August.
This means that travellers will only be able to visit the country provided they follow strict requirements, including passengers having to provide a negative coronavirus PCR test on arrival to Cyprus. This has to be obtained within 72 hours before travel.
Travellers to the country must also complete a Cyprus Flight Pass before travelling, with your test result uploaded to this within 24 hours of your departure.
This then has to be presented prior to boarding and on arrival at immigration.
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) explains that the Cyprus Ministry of Health have advised that COVID-test results can be in the form of an email or SMS, but must:
- include the date and time when the test was taken
- state the type of test, which should be PCR
Until 1 August, passengers who have been in the UK, or any other destination not listed in categories A or B in the last 14 days, will not be allowed to enter Cyprus, even via a third country.
The exception to this is legal residents of Cyprus and Cypriot ID holders, who are permitted to enter Cyprus on presentation of proof of residence or Cypriot nationality, alongside a negative COVID-19 PCR test result.
How long are flights cancelled for?
Jet2 flights to Cyprus are currently cancelled up to and including 16 August.
Jet 2 tweeted: “Because of prohibitive entry restrictions into Cyprus, we have no choice but to suspend flights and holidays to Larnaca and Paphos up to and including 16th August.
"We continue to urge the Cypriot authorities to review the entry criteria in line with other destinations, so that our customers can enjoy their well-deserved holidays.”
What if my flights are cancelled?
Jet2 has said that customers affected by these flight cancellations will be offered the option to rebook with no admin fee, a Refund Credit Note or a full cash refund.
The airline will be contacting customers to discuss these options.
What if I have a flight to Cyprus after 16 August?
The airline will be providing further information regarding those who are due to travel to the country after 16 August.
