O’Driscoll claims silver medal at the National Dwarf Games

Lillington Free Church’s Alex O’Driscoll claimed a silver medal at the National Dwarf Championships at Aldersley Leisure Village in Wolverhampton.

The 15-year-old won his qualifying group to reach the semi-final where he overcame Marib Aldoais from Germany.

However, he found County Durham’s Mark Swan too strong in the final.

Three Free Church youngsters produced fine performances at Long Eaton on Saturday in the Draycott 1-star tournament.

Ciara Hancox won her under 13 girls’ group to reach the semi-final where she overcame Bethany Wootton before going down in three close sets to England number 11 Hannah Ward in the final.

History repeated itself in the under-15 girls’ where Hancox again won her group and marched on to the semi-final where she beat Nottingham’s Natasha Johnston.

However, Ward was again too strong in the final, winning 3-0.

Emily Beasley failed to qualify in the under-13 girls’ event but instead contested the consolation competition, reaching the final where she lost to Johnston.

She upped her game in the under-15s’ and secured qualification to the knockouts, losing to Ward in the semi-final.

Lillington Free Church’s Ricardo Bolanos reached the semi-final of the under-13 event.

Bolanos met England number 66 Luke Nimmo in the last four after finishing runner-up in his group, losing in five.

He avenged the defeat in the under-15s, but lost to Draycott’s Jack Finney in the quarter-finals.

Free Church’s Eve Briscoe claimed a runners-up medal in the junior girls’ category at the Burton-Uxbridge tournament.

Briscoe beat Staffordshire’s Georgia Harris 3-2 and Lincolnshire’s Chloe de la Fontaine 3-0 in her final round-robin group, with a defeat to Yorkshire’s Amy Gittings costing her victory.
