Warwick's St Mary's Church illuminated with poppies for Remembrance

St Mary's Church in Warwick has been illuminated with poppies for this year’s Remembrance period.

The lights were officially switched on this week and the church’s iconic tower will continue to be illuminated until Wednesday November 11.

The new lights came about thanks to several organisations and teams working together.

One of the teams involved included the Warwick Christmas Lights team at Warwick Town Council, which works every year to fundraise and source new Christmas lights for the town centre.

Speaking about the new poppy lights, a spokesperson from the Warwick Christmas Lights team at Warwick Town Council said: “At Warwick's Christmas Lights, community is at the heart of everything we do.

“The incredible support we receive from residents, businesses and organisations through our fundraising and sponsorship helps us bring new Christmas lights to Warwick town centre each year.

“But that community spirit doesn't stop at Christmas.

“Earlier this year, we explored the possibility of illuminating the tower of Collegiate Church of St Mary, with poppies for Remembrance.

“We were delighted when Hatton & Harding stepped forward to sponsor the two lenses needed to make this special project possible.”

The Mayor of Warwick, Cllr Simon Pargeter, along with representatives from Warwick Town Council, Hatton & Harding and St Mary's Church, gathered on Tuesday (November 3) for the official switch on the new lighting.

The spokesperson from the Warwick Christmas Lights team added: “We are incredibly proud that St Mary’s Church tower will now be illuminated with poppies until Wednesday November 11, providing a striking tribute to remember all those who have served and sacrificed for our country.

“This project is a wonderful example of what can be achieved when a community comes together.

“The same generosity, kindness and support that helps us light up Warwick at Christmas has helped us create something meaningful for the whole town this Remembrance period. Thank you to NS Booth Electrical Contractors for installing them.

“A huge thank you to everyone who supports our fundraising throughout the year, and a very special thank you to Hatton & Harding for sponsoring the two lenses and helping bring this project to life.”

“Together, we can make Warwick shine – not just at Christmas, but all year round.”
