Community knits together to create spectacular remembrance poppy display at Coughton Court
Coughton Court in Alcester is inviting visitors to reflect and remember this November with a beautiful handmade display of over 1,500 knitted and crocheted poppies.

The impressive display has been created in Coughton Court’s Catholic Church, where it is free for visitors to admire until Sunday 15th November.
The project has brought people together from across the local community, with volunteers, staff and members of the public picking up their knitting needles and crochet hooks to create the thousands of handmade poppies. The magnificent sea of poppies offers a poignant tribute to all those who have served, sacrificed and lost their lives in conflicts, as the nation comes together to mark Remembrance Day.

Alongside the poppy display, visitors can also discover more about the Throckmorton family's own connections to the First World War. A series of information panels tells the stories of members of the family who served during the war years, including a dedicated feature on Courtenay Throckmorton, who was killed in action at the Battle of Sannaiyat in 1916.
Magnus Birch Throckmorton, who manages the family estate alongside his wife Imogen, said: “We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has got involved in creating our Remembrance poppy display. It has been wonderful to see so many people coming together for such a meaningful project. We couldn’t have done it without everyone’s time and generosity, and we’re incredibly grateful to all who have contributed.”
After viewing the Remembrance display, visitors can enjoy a treat in the Stableyard Cafe or relax while little ones have fun in the play area.
During autumn and winter, Coughton Court is open from Wednesday to Sunday, 10am-4.30pm. Tickets are £15.50 for adults (16+) and £14 for concessions (60+) and students. Parking and entry to the Catholic Church, Stableyard cafe, shop and play area is free of charge.
