Roman-style summer fun in Warwickshire

THIS summer families will have the chance to step back 2,000 years in time and experience what it was like to be a Roman.

Each week, between Tuesday and Friday of the summer holidays, events including Roman chariots to coins through storytelling, food and exercise and other entertainment will all be taking place at The Lunt Roman Fort in Baginton.

On August 14 and 15 an Ancient Food and Fitness day of activities will show what Roman life was really like.

At 10.30am there will be a porridge breakfast before Roman fitness training at 11am. From midday a healthy picnic lunch will be put on before the Spartan fitness session at 1.15pm. Rounding off the day will be a Roman style barbecue at 3pm.

The Lunt Roman Fort is the only reconstructed wooden fort in Britain. It dates from the same period as the Boudican rebellion, and the archaeology on site indicates that it was built as a campaign headquarters and supply base.

Ancient Food and Fitness cost £5 per person and booking is essential on 024 7678 6142 or 07969 636670.

There will also be a writing competition for children which opens on Tuesday.

Entry forms will be available online or at the fort.
