Classic car driver dies in crash near Leamington

A MAN who had been driving a classic car was killed in a crash near Leamington on Tuesday.

Two ambulances, two fire engines, police and a crew from the Midlands Air Ambulance rushed to the scene in Old Milverton Lane in Blackdown at around 2.45pm to find the man trapped inside a red Alfa Romeo Barchetta, which had crashed into a tree.

A blue Peugeot 406 at the scene also had minor damage.

The driver of Alfa Romeo had suffered very serious chest injuries. Firefighters and ambulance staff worked together to free him so they could perform resuscitation, but nothing could be done to save him and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Peugeot, a woman, was not injured. She was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and was released on police bail pending further enquiries.
