Courier/Weekly News signs up to new Independent Press Standards Organisation

The Courier/Weekly News is part of Johnston Press and all of the Johnston Press titles have joined IPSO.

Editor Chris Lillington said the titles were committed to setting the highest ethical standards and serving the community with honesty, integrity and sensitivity.

“Our aim is to report the news accurately and in context, without sensationalism.

“We invest heavily in editorial training through the National Council for the Training of Journalists - and getting our stories right, and treating you with respect, are critical to this,” he added.

“Of course, with the best will in the world, we make a mistake.

“Until now, we have been regulated by the PCC and committed ourselves to its code of conduct which is designed to ensure we meet the highest standards of accuracy and respect for those whose stories we report.

“From this week, the commission was replaced by a new regulator IPSO - the Independent Press Standards Organisation - and we warmly welcome and support it,” he added.

“If you believe we ever fall short of the high standards we set and have breached the code of conduct, then you should contact IPSO - www.ipso.co.uk,” he said.
