Disqualified Warwickshire driver who had 44 points on his licence is finally held accountable for his actions

A disqualified driver from Bubbenhall who racked up 44 points on his licence for speeding offences has been sentenced.

The registered keeper, who has not named by the police despite our requests, came to the attention of officers after several speeding offences were detected across Warwickshire and the West Midlands.

Despite being legally required to provide driver details, the 45-year-old man failed to respond to multiple notices, resulting in several convictions in his absence.

As a consequence, he accumulated 44 penalty points and was disqualified from driving.

Police said that further enquiries suggested he continued to use the vehicle, which then led to officers catching him driving.

His vehicle was seized and he was reported for the offence and summonsed to court.

After failing to attend court, officers attended his home address, where he was arrested and remanded for court the following day.

Appearing before magistrates in Coventry on August 12, he was sentenced to:

  • Rehabilitation Activity Requirement of 80 hours of unpaid work.
  • A further 12-month driving disqualification on top of an existing one, meaning he will not be eligible to apply for his licence until 2029.
  • Paying court costs and a victim surcharge.

OPU and roads safety supervisor Alison Treharne said: “Using a vehicle on a road involves taking responsibility and complying with legal requirements to keep people safe.

“Failing to provide details for speeding offences does not make the matter disappear, and can ultimately lead to far more serious outcomes from court proceedings.

“The work of the Operation Tenacity Team, supported by the Traffic Process Unit and Operational Patrol Unit, ensured this offender was identified, arrested and brought before the courts.

“We remain committed to holding offenders accountable and improving road safety across Warwickshire.”
