Leamington nursing home is now rated as 'good ' overall after warning from regulator
A Leamington nursing home, which provides care to younger and older people who maybe living with a dementia or physical disabilities, has been rated as ‘good’ overall by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) just months after it was given a warning by the regulator.
CQC inspectors found the Royal Leamington Spa Nursing Home in Adelaide Road to be good in all areas including its safety, effectiveness of care, care given to residents, responsiveness and leadership.

This is major improvement for the nursing home compared to its previous inspection earlier this year, after which the regulator served a warning notice on the home for failing to meet the regulations related to good governance and from which the subsequent report found safety, responsiveness and leadership at the home to all require improvement and stated that the home required improvement overall.
The home is run by Leamington Spa Nursing Home Limited.
After the previous report was published in June, director Mark Mendelson said: “We’re addressing all the issues brought to our attention during the inspection.
“We have allocated £200,000 for improvements to the building and an expert management consultant to improve the methods we use to conduct and record governance and care.
“All 94 fire doors are being upgraded and three fire safety engineers are working full time in our home.
“The kitchen ceiling is now 60-minutes fire resistant, all sash windows have been repaired, window opening restrictors have been fitted, and all wall penetrations (pipes/cables) are in the process of being fire stopped.
"We believe we’ve rectified all the issues in the report and are concentrating on reaching at least a good overall score again.
Mr Mendelson added: “Care to our residents has always been to a high standard and this is reflected in the report.
"Our staff are committed to providing the highest levels of care and will be supported by a motivated management team, which includes a new clinical lead nurse manager.”
Responding to the latest report last week, Mr Mendelson said: “We are pleased to announce on the recent CQC inspection, the warning notice was removed and we received a good overall rating.
"The staff have undergone in-depth training by a top management consultant and an extensive refurbishment has also been carried out.”
