Leamington town centre could be getting another publicly accessible defibrillator and bleed kit

Plans have been submitted to install a publicly accessible defibrillator and bleed kit in Leamington town centre.

Earlier this year, Nationwide Building Society announced its plans to equip its branches across the UK with defibrillators and bleed control kits.

In August, 37 branches across the Midlands had the equipment installed, and in Warwickshire this included the Kenilworth and Rugby sites.

Now, Nationwide has submitted an application to install the life-saving pieces of equipment to its branch on the Parade in Leamington.

In the planning statement it said: “Nationwide Building Society are committed to supporting the communities they serve, with branches located at the centre of high streets across the UK.

“As part of this commitment to community wellbeing, they aim to install life savings equipment to some of their branches to ensure people have rapid, 24/7 access to vital emergency equipment whenever it is needed.

“The Defibrillator and Bleed Kit will be housed in a secure cabinet installed to the external wall of the Nationwide Building Society branch.”

It added: “The cabinet needs to be in a prominent location where it can easily be seen and, at a height where it can be reached in case the equipment is needed in an emergency.

“We have proposed that the cabinet is fixed in a location that, whilst prominent, has limited impact on the appearance of the conservation area.

“The cabinet can be removed if it becomes redundant, as the installation of this equipment is potentially lifesaving, we consider that this outweighs any harm to the appearance of the conservation area.”

A bleed kit was also installed at Leamington Town Hall earlier this year.
