Competing in a strong U16 sabre field, Samantha, a member of KK Fencing Club, delivered an outstanding performance to secure a place on the podium.

Samantha said: “I really enjoyed the competition.

“I had some injuries earlier in the year, which affected my training, so I was pleased to recover in time and fence well at the championships.

“The result has given me confidence and motivation to keep working towards my goal of representing Great Britain in future Cadet competitions.”

Representing the West Midlands region, she won all of her poule matches and entered the knockout rounds ranked fourth seed overall.

She then defeated opponents from the South East, North West and Eastern regions on her route to the semi-finals, where she lost to another Eastern-region fencer to claim bronze.

Fellow club members also performed strongly at the championships.

Sylvie Abay finished 15th in the U16 Girls’ Sabre event, while Mya Sutherland placed 13th in the U14 Girls’ Sabre category.
