Shocking moment car smashes into butcher's shop near Kenilworth, narrowly missing customer

The crash happened just days after the shop reopened following a major refurbishment

This is the shocking moment an out-of-control car smashed through a newly reopened butcher's shop narrowly missing a customer.

Dramatic CCTV footage shows the Jaguar E-Pace ploughing through the window of Eric Lyons Butchers in Balsall Common, just days after it reopened following a major refurbishment.

The car suddenly leapt forward and slammed through the glass frontage, sending items flying across the shop.

Incredibly, a customer inside narrowly avoided being hit by the car while staff leapt up onto the chopping block to escape the carnage.

Police and fire crews rushed to the scene after the crash on Station Road at around 12pm on Wednesday November 4.

A woman was assessed by paramedics but discharged at the scene, West Midlands Ambulance Service said.

The smash came just days after the family-run butchers, which dates back to the 1800s, reopened following renovations.

Butcher Nick Lyons said: “There was a customer in the back right, and two members of staff were behind the butcher's counter and jumped up on the wooden block, so we are all fine.”

He said the crash caused extensive damage after the car ploughed through “90 per cent” of the shop.

The business will remain closed until January, although bosses said Christmas orders and deliveries will not be affected.

West Midlands Police are investigating the cause of the crash.

A force spokesperson said: “We were called to Station Road, Balsall Common, Solihull, after a car struck a property at just after 12pm on Wednesday.

“No one has reported any injuries to us. Anyone with information can call 101, quoting log 2012 of 4 November.”

The butchers has thanked everyone for their support.

"We just wanted to say a huge thank you to every single person who commented, messaged and called us. We’ve been blown away by everyone’s messages of concern and well wishes," they said.

"Certainly not the opening week we had planned but we are so incredibly relieved that no-one was hurt or injured.

"A massive thank you to Rachel and Liam for how well they handled the incident, to all the local emergency service people who attended the scene, to the locals who happened to witness the incident and rushed to help, as well as those who helped us get the shop cleared and boarded up.

"We are so grateful to be part of such a wonderful and caring community."
