Day Two of Warwick Racecourse’s race meeting hosted some competitive races, but saw a majority of beaten favourites, many of which were trained by local trainers who had had such a positive day of results at the track the day before.

The first race was a junior hurdle run over two miles (12.00). Local trainer Dan Skelton’s Whitletts was the favourite at 6/4, but found no extra in the closing stages under Tristan Durrell and was eventually beaten by La Luna Artista, who won by nine lengths, and Enya - the second favourite - who finished as the runner up.

Next was a maiden hurdle, also run over two miles (12.35). Alan King’s Baron Noir was the 4/6 favourite, but was the next beaten market leader as Harry Derham’s new recruit Cristal d’Estruval made all and wasn’t for catching at the front, winning easily by three lengths. Dan Skelton’s runner, Bossman Jack, finished in third.

Race three, a mares’ handicap hurdle over two miles and five furlongs (1.10), saw the winner come good. Here, Nicky Henderson and stable jockey Nico de Boinville teamed up to win with 15/8 main fancy Crazierthandaisy, who kept on well into the lead ahead of joint second favorites Audacious Annie and Dramatic Encore.

The fourth race was a three-mile veterans’ handicap chase (1.45). The favourite here was the Twiston-Davies’ Torn And Frayed, but he was outpaced in the closing stages by 11/4 shot Nocte Volatus at 11/4, who won by over seven lengths, leaving the favourite back in second position, followed by Hillcrest in third.

Race five, a mares’ novices’ hurdle over two miles and three furlongs (2.20), saw the final favourite winning. Fergal O’Brien’s 10/11 shot Dream Shadow was prominent and led with four still to jump, and nothing could pass her, so she won by over six lengths. 50/1 shot Gaelic Saint was second at a very nice each-way price, followed by Jem’s Lilly.

Second to last was a mares’ handicap chase over two and a half miles (2.55). We had a 7/1 winner here in the shape of Tom Symonds’ Kalista Love, who beat local handler Olly Murphy’s joint favourite Largy Force by just three quarters of a length. Dan Skelton’s runner Settle Down Jill was third at 11/1.

Last of all was a mares’ bumper (3.28). No Flies On Her was the 3/1 favourite but had no chance with the winning The Flaggy Shore, trained by Ben Clarke, who won by seven lengths under Toby McCain-Mitchell. Dan Skelton’s Jollie Dame was second at 100/30, while the favourite finished third.
