Leamington business organises three-day cycle ride in aid of Warwickshire charities

A construction company based in Leamington organised a three-day cycle ride to help raise money for charities in Warwickshire.

Taking place from October 1 to 3, the 300-mile ride from Bilbao to Madrid helped raise £41,000.

This year’s event marked the third O’Brien Charitable Trust bike ride and saw 14 riders take part, with participants from Leamington-based O’Brien Contractors, BAM Construction, PACT, Hortons Estate, Bates Carpentry Contractors, Plantforce, Latus Group, Charles Rose Properties, and Canary Wharf Group.

The O’Brien Charitable Trust has a long history of supporting charities within Warwickshire, with donations made to Acorns Children’s Hospice, Air Ambulance Warwickshire and Northamptonshire, Freddie’s Wish, Myton Hospice and Zoe’s Place to name a few.

With total donations raised now surpassing £500,000 since 2017, the Trust said it is on track to raise more £75,000 this year.

Tom O’Brien, director of O’Brien Contractors, said: “This year’s ride has certainly been our most challenging and rewarding to date. After convincing 13 of my closest friends and colleagues to take on the impossible, I couldn’t be prouder of what we have achieved.

“Our target was to raise £20,000, and it is safe to say we surpassed that in style. Despite the long days and less than ideal weather conditions, we were sure to remember why we took on the challenge: to raise money in support of some of our county’s small yet mighty charities.

“£41,000 is something I could have never predicted, and with any luck, this is set to be our most successful fundraising year ever.

“Thank you to every single person and organisation for your time, efforts and overall commitment in helping us achieve this incredible result.”

The event was sponsored by Pearl Comms, Bates Carpentry Contractors, Paynes Garages Ltd, Shifnal Plant Ltd, Linsco Recruitment, Johnsons Timber Supplies Ltd, CX Energy, Readyfix Ltd, John Hughes Haulage Ltd, PACT, Tracey Concrete Ltd, Advanced Infrastructure Systems Ltd, Fortel Group, Evesons Fuels, Building and Plumbing Supplies Ltd, Link Engineering, TC Group, True Group, Doocey Traffic Management, Allen Dadswell Construction Consultants, Nixon Hire, Howkins & Harrison LLP, Latus Group, Bernhards Landscapes Ltd, Busby Construction, Macaw Security Solutions, Webbs Bricklaying Contractors, Frampton Town Planning Ltd, Paul O’Dwyer, and Phoenix Steel Structures Ltd.
