Two men have been jailed after police uncovered a £500,000 cannabis farm hidden in underground bunkers near Rugby.

Gjergivatal Pjeter, 33, of Birmingham, and Eldoh Sylaj, 31, of Maidstone, Kent, admitted being involved in producing the Class B drug after police found the secret subterranean grow.

The pair were each jailed for 22 months at Warwick Crown Court on Monday, October 26.

Five people were arrested when officers raided the rural site near Wolston on August 19, but only Pjeter and Sylaj were charged.

Dramatic bodycam footage captured the moment police uncovered cannabis plants being cultivated in underground rooms beneath the site.

The hidden drugs den was accessed through a hatch cut into the floor of a shipping container, concealing the operation below ground.

A Rugby police spokesman said: "Our officers discovered a cannabis grow worth an estimated £500,000.

"The warrant turned up an underground grow not dissimilar to something from Guy Ritchie's The Gentlemen, with an entry hatch in an inconspicuous shipping container on the surface."

As well as being jailed, both defendants were ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £187. The court also ordered the destruction of the cannabis.
