There were plenty of spooky surprises at an annual Halloween fireworks event at The Fleur de Lys this month.

Some 500 people soaked up the seasonal fun at the pub’s Halloween & Fireworks Party on Saturday, enjoying a host of live family entertainment, from fire shows to music and food.

It marked the twelfth such event organised at The Fleur by owners Emma and Nick Woodhouse, in Lowsonford.

Visitors this year were wowed by performances from Storm In A Teacup circus group, including a spectacular fire show, stilt walker, bubble witch and LED artists, plus, kids had the chance to get involved in face painting by Glitter Squad and craft tables. There was also the opportunity to get a tarot reading from Dayle Adams as well as enjoy live music sets from local five-piece covers band Real Human Beings.

And highlight of the evening was a sensational fireworks display from Fantazia Fireworks.

Emma said: ““We still get as nervous about our fireworks night now as we did for our first foray twelve years ago, but we’re so pleased that our now annual Halloween & Fireworks Spectacular was such a success this year.

“It’s so lovely to see so many familiar faces in the crowd, from locals who have loved this pub for years, to families bringing their kids to the festivities for the first time. Our team really love getting into the spirit of the event and so they went all out to make this as memorable a Halloween party as possible.

“Partnering with local entertainment agency Storm In A Teacup from Leamington really added the wow factor with spooky stilt walkers, fiendish LED hula hoop artists, a mind-bending bubble witch and a spectacular fire show with frighteningly flexible pyro performers. Our 20-minute fireworks show was the cherry on the cake of a spectacular evening.”

She added: “In a world where pubs are closing at the rate of three a day, it’s more important than ever to keep these types of building relevant to our customer base, so we’re really proud to have provided a safe and intimate family-friendly party atmosphere that delighted our youngest and more seasoned customers alike. It’s safe to say that planning for Halloween 2027 is already underway!”

The Halloween theme could also be seen as a nod to one of the building’s former guises as a mortuary, from where the bodies were taken to Rowington Church in the absence of a village church. It wasn’t until the early 20th century that it first opened as a tavern, later going on to introduce the ‘pioneering’ idea of serving food and giving rise to the now famous Fleur De Lys pies.
