Rugby Police Bowls Club, which celebrated its 70th anniversary this year, presented the cheque to the charity at its National Centre, based near Leamington.

Club members, who include retired police officers, special constables, and members of the public based at Oakfield Bowls Club, raised the money through holding social evenings, selling recycled bowls wear and other bowls activities.

Members also made their own individual donations to the cause.

David Owen, chair of Rugby Police Bowls Club, said: “Although we’re a small club, we’ve been collecting and donating to charities for over 30 years, raising thousands of pounds and paying for two defibrillators at The Grange and Oakfield Bowls Club.

“This is the first time we’ve supported Guide Dogs, and it was a pleasure visiting the charity’s National Centre and finding out more about the services they provide for people who are visually impaired.”
