The Lillington thrower’s previous best run came in a Players Championship in Gibraltar in February 2010 on his first-ever weekend on the PDC circuit.

Heydon, who was forced to win back his PDC Tour Card in January at Qualifying School, showed fine form as he whitewashed John Part in the first round and also defeated Ian Moss, David Pallett, Ian White and Ronnie Baxter on the day.

However, he found Phil Taylor too good in the semi-final with the 16-time world champion coasting to a 6-0 win on the back of a 106 average.

Taylor then went on to lose 6-5 to Gary Anderson in the final.

Steve Beaton reached the fourth round on Saturday and Sunday, with Heydon bowing out in the first round on Sunday.
