The Myton Hospices hosts workshop exploring more inclusive approaches to end of life care

The Myton Hospices hosted a training workshop on Thursday 1st October, bringing together health and social care professionals from across South Warwickshire to explore more inclusive approaches to advance care planning.

Held at Warwick Myton Hospice, the workshop introduced participants to No Barriers Here©, a creative approach to advance care planning that uses arts-based activities to help people explore and communicate their wishes for future care.

The workshop aimed to give professionals a better understanding of how creative and inclusive methods can support meaningful conversations about death and dying. It also encouraged participants to reflect on their own thoughts and wishes around future care, helping them to better understand and support the people they work with.

Through an interactive session using collage, colour and images, participants explored identity, dignity and what matters most to them when thinking about their future care. By using creative activities and fewer words, the approach encourages people to express who they are and how they want to be understood by those supporting them.

Ellie Clack, Spiritual Care Lead at The Myton Hospices and lead for its No Barriers Here© work, said: “We had a great time exploring how an arts-based approach, using fewer words and more images, can transform conversations about future care priorities and wishes.

“There are many under-represented and under-served communities who do not have easy access to palliative and end of life care services and may miss out on opportunities to have meaningful advance care planning conversations. No Barriers Here© seeks to address this through creative, inclusive and compassionate approaches.

“Many of the participants who joined us caught a glimpse of what the approach can offer, and some are already looking to take part in facilitator training in the future.”

Myton is already delivering No Barriers Here© workshops with a group of participants at a local Gurdwara. With its team of trained facilitators continuing to grow, the hospice is also exploring opportunities to make the workshops more widely available in 2027.
