Carpets flying high and coming to Leamington

IT has been nearly 30 years since alternative rockers Inspiral Carpets arrived on the music scene and after a lineup reshuffle last year they are back on tour.

Inspiral Carpets were formed on an estate in Oldham in 1983 and after a hiatus for several years when they split in 1995, they returned in 2003.

Last year the frontman Tom Hingley quit the band, with original singer Stephen Holt taking over lead vocal duties, and he will be bringing their unique sound to the Leamington Assembly next month.

As the band started to gain critical acclaim in the 80s Holt left the group which he had founded, to be replaced by Hingley. After that Inspiral Carpets went on to claim four chart topping albums, 13 UK top 40 singles and numerous sold out tours.

Now in their latest UK tour they are exploring their early years to coincide with the reformation of the original lineup.

Along with new material, the band will reel out some of their biggest hits such as Planecrash, Trainsurfing and Dung 4.

They will play at the Assembly on Thursday March 22. Tickets are £18.50 and can be bought online at www.leamingtonassembly.co.uk
