Soldiers view war images in Leamington collection

SURROUNDING the season of Remembrance, a fitting war-themed photography and media exhibition continues at a Leamington art gallery until this Sunday.

There are still two days left to see freelance photojournalist Alison Baskerville’s collection, Make & Mend, at Gallery 150 in the Regent Court shopping arcade.

Alison began her career in the RAF and served in Northern Ireland and Iraq for 12 years.

It was while she was in Iraq that she was inspired to capture her surroundings on an old Nikon F1, which prompted her to change career and become a photojournalist.

The most difficult decision Alison made was leaving the security and stability of the RAF and venturing into the unknown.

She built up her portfolio through working on documentary projects with charities, producing images for news and undertaking commercial commissions.

Alison deployed with the Territorial Army to Afghanistan as a defence combat camera photographer in March this year and only recently returned to the UK.

Soldiers returning to the area from Afghanistan have visited the Leamington gallery during the past few weeks to see her latest work.

Make & Mend ends on Sunday. Opening hours are 11am to 6pm on Friday and Saturday and 11am to 4pm on Sunday.
