Your chance to see a lovingly tended garden by award-winning plantswoman in Barford

A Barford garden lovingly tended by award-winning plantswoman Marie-Jane Roberts throws open its gates for the National Garden Scheme this weekend.

Visitors can admire nature garden, rockery, and herb garden in a palette of pink, lemon and sky blue with countless shades in-between showcased by deep borders.

Dedicated flower-beds provide blooms for cutting and for drying, there are 180 dahlias grown for exhibition, and seven seating areas amidst fragrant planted containers.

Berry bushes galore (logan, tay and bramble) surround seven vegetable plots and nine types of fruit including trained peaches, nectarine and cordon pears.

This July marks Marie-Jane’s first opening for the NGS. It has a special poignancy as she remembers a “dahlia friend” who passed away aged 91 last summer.

Supported by local Macmillan Nurses (the charity receiving £500,000 donated from NGS garden visits in 2019), her friend was able to be cared for at home, and his wife spared a daily trip to hospital.

“It was just so lovely that they were both able to be at home together,” said Marie-Jane.

Open on Saturday July 11 2-6pm and Sunday July 12th 2-6pm.
