Author's memoir is about how she made childhood dream to own horse a reality in Kenilworth

An author, who wrote memoir about how she made her childhood dream to own a horse a reality in Kenilworth, will return to the town for a book signing event this month.

Hannah Sharpe’s book My Cracker Jack Adventures tells the true story of her journey towards owning her own pony and the joy, chaos and life lessons she experienced after.

Coming from a working class family who lived in Coventry – a world where she could have her own horse ‘seemed like it was in a different galaxy’ to Hannah when she was young.

She said: “That didn't stop me dreaming and with a lot of hard work and a tenacious attitude the dream finally became a reality, aged 12.

"That was just the beginning though, and little did I know about the reality of owning your own pony and the book tells the true stories of the trials and tribulations that followed - tears, laughter, heartache and love plus some 'hang onto the seat of your pants' moments too.

"I lived in Coventry but Cracker-Jack was kept in a field in Kenilworth and so all the stories in the book relate to local people, landmarks, gymkhana events and pony club rallies that many readers in the area will remember and relate to – one of the gymkhana events is still running in Kenilworth today, all these years on.

"The book has proven popular with horse lovers of a certain age (40+) who remember a time before the digital world took over, when summer holidays were spent galloping round fields without a care in the world with no distraction from mobile phones or social media, when everything seemed much simpler.

"It’s also loved by younger readers who, just like me, love to be around horses and either dream of owning their own pony, or are lucky enough to be starting their own journey into the chaotic world of owning one of these majestic creatures creating their own wonderful memories.

"It’s both nostalgic and uplifting - a real page turner that will leave you smiling and feeling inspired.”

Hannah will be signing copies of the book at Kenilworth Books on Saturday September 26 from 10.30am to 1.30pm.
