But West Midlands Railway (WMR) has announced today (April 6) that the rail line between Nuneaton and Leamington, serving Kenilworth, will soon reopen on April 26.

This is sooner than many had expected, with many fearing that the line would remain closed for most of the year. Click here for the full story.

However, with the gradual easing of lockdown restrictions now under way, WMR said service can return - albeit gradually.

"Initially one train will run every two hours, with rail replacement buses continuing to supplement the service," said a WMR spokesperson.

"WMR remains committed to reinstating the full timetable when possible."

Jonny Wiseman, customer experience director for West Midlands Railway, said: “With lockdown measures beginning to ease further, now is the right time to reinstate a train service between Nuneaton and Leamington Spa.

“It was the direct impact of the pandemic on our train crew – both through sickness and lost driver training days – which left us no choice but to temporarily withdraw the service.

“I would like to thank our passengers and the local community for their patience and understanding while we have been working hard to bring trains back to the line.

"Passengers are being reminded that the latest Government advice remains to minimise travel where possible and face coverings must be worn on public transport, unless exempt for medical reasons."

Timetables will be available to view on www.wmr.uk/timetable in due course.
