Call-off will make it even harder for Hemel to catch up - Holleran

Brakes boss Paul Holleran says the postponement of last Saturday’s home game with Hemel Hempstead will make it even harder for the Tudors to overhaul his side at the top of the Southern League Premier.

Friday’s night’s snowfall on top of a period of rain left the New Windmill pitch waterlogged, denying Leamington the chance to extend their winning sequence to four games.

But with just over four weeks of the season remaining, Holleran believes the call-off will prove more of a hindrance to their visitors.

“It gives us a slight advantage,” he said. “We’ve got the points on the board and they’re going to have to squeeze games in until the end of the season.

“And Tuesday nights always make it harder for the away team.”

Brakes return to action tomorrow with a trip to Cambridge City followed by a home clash with Banbury on Monday (3pm) and Holleran admits it could be a pivotal weekend.

“Cambridge are a very dangerous side. When they turn up and are at it, they are a very good side as was demonstrated by their FA Cup first round draw with MK Dons.

“Banbury are a bit more off the cuff. What’s for certain is that we’ll have to deal with them much better than we did at Banbury and we’ll have a different gameplan this time.

“We’re aware if we have a good Easter weekend it will put us in a great position and stamp our authority on the league.

“Similarly, with six points up for grabs, we know we could leave the door open for the chasing teams.”
