FOOTBALL: Ladies learn from cup game with West Brom

Rugby Town Ladies took on West Bromwich Albion in the quarter-finals of the Birmingham FA County Cup, with an attendance of over 100 turning out to watch at Kilsby Lane on Sunday afternoon.

Slick passing and movement overcame the grit and determination of a team that never gave up and never stopped running. Hard work by the Rugby defence and some spectacular saves by Adele Rogers frustrated WBA’s attacking line. Unfortunately it took 45 minutes for Rugby to settle into the game and get over their first minute penalty miss. The final score was 0-10, but spirits were not dampened with Rugby learning from the experience of playing against a Premier League side.

To get this far in the county’s most prestigious women’s cup competition is a massive achievement for a grassroots football club, and something the team and management are very proud of.

The ladies want to pass on their thanks to everyone who came to watch. They return to action this weekend when they play Halas Hawks in the semi-final of the league cup.
