Kauto Star has created a buzz for racegoers

JUMP racing continues to grow in popularity and, with the weather forecast to stay mild, there should be a good crowd for Warwick’s New Year’s Eve meeting which gets underway at 12.35pm today, writes David Hucker.

With Kauto Star gaining an historic fifth win in the King George VI Chase at Kempton on Boxing Day, there is a real buzz within the sport and bookmakers William Hill sponsor the seven-race card which will be part of the afternoon’s coverage on Channel 4.

There are 28 entries for the day’s longest race, the Bet With williamhill.com On Your Mobile Handicap Chase over three miles and half a furlong. This race is open to horses rated 0 -120 and there are four at the top of the handicap in the shape of Air Force One, Cerium, Samurai Way and Thats Ben.

Trainer Jonjo O’Neill has three entries, the best of which may be Quazy De Joie.

Trigger The Light won at the last meeting and is one of two entries from the in-form Alan King yard

Also televised will be the fifth, the Best Odds Guaranteed with williamhill.com Mobile Handicap Chase over two and a half miles at 2.50pm. With 24 entries, this looks like being another competitive event and Venetia Williams provides three of them in Ballyoliver, Niceonefrankie and Sawpit Supreme.

The seven-race card is completed with the William Hill - Home Of Betting Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race at 3.50pm. Swing Bowler and Viking Ridge will have to carry a penalty against some unexposed opponents.

Sixteen of the 29 entries have not seen a racecourse or run in point-to-points.
