Rugby town centre will come alive with light, music and movement for a vibrant celebration of Diwali.

Rugby Indian Association is inviting everyone in the borough to celebrate the Festival of Light with them on Sunday, November 1, from 2pm to 7pm.

Celebrated by millions of Hindus, Sikhs and Jains across the world, Diwali marks new beginnings, symbolising the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness.

Cllr Ish Mistry, who is one of the organisers, said: “Rugby will come alive with colour, music and joy across the main stage at Asda car park (in front of the Swan Centre), Market Place and Rugby town centre.

Visitors can enjoy an exciting programme of entertainment featuring traditional Indian dance and music, a Scottish Pipe Band and a range of cultural performances that will illuminate the afternoon.

More than 30 vibrant stalls will offer delicious Indian cuisine, traditional crafts and beautiful artefacts.

A highlight of the celebration will be the Lantern Parade through the town centre where everyone can join in, culminating in the official Diwali light switch on by the Mayor of Rugby, Cllr Nooria Sayani - a moment for the whole community to share.

Diwali is a festival for everyone - families, friends, neighbours and visitors. Rugby Indian Association warmly encourages the community to come together and help light up Rugby for Diwali 2026.

Cllr Mistry added: “Rugby has an incredibly diverse community which continues to grow. Holding the event in the town centre helps showcase and support that diversity, while also providing a wonderful opportunity to support local businesses.

"We are grateful to Rugby Borough Council for their continued support and extend a special thank you to Asda for allowing us to use their car park as part of the event.”

Diwali is an annual celebration of diversity, a reminder of shared values, and an invitation for all to join in the celebration of light, love, and unity.

The event is free to attend. For further information, visit www.therugbytown.co.uk or follow Rugby Indian Association on social media.
